The Faculty of Economics at SIMAD University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of Certified Chartered Economists (ACCE) to enhance academic and professional opportunities for its staff and students.
SIMAD University’s Faculty of Economics is recognized as the leading economics program in Somalia, offering undergraduate degrees in Economics, Statistics and Planning, International Trade & Investment, and Biostatistics. The Faculty has a distinguished record of research excellence, having published 39 papers in Scopus/ISI indexed international journals in 2024 alone across various research areas. The ACCE is a dynamic and globally oriented association that offers the Chartered Economist Designation, a globally recognized certification. This partnership aims to equip the Faculty of Economics’ staff, students, and alumni with the prestigious Chartered Economist designation, thereby enhancing their career prospects and expanding their job opportunities in both local and global competitive markets.
The two institutions will collaborate to provide the Chartered Economist designation and career growth opportunities to faculty staff, students, and alumni, facilitating career development and increasing job opportunities.
Under this agreement, the ACCE will provide partial scholarships and exclusive pathways for students and faculty members to pursue the Chartered Economist certification. Graduates with a bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Economics will receive exemptions from the Fundamental Level, Part I, and Part II courses of the ACCE program, significantly reducing their study load. Those with a master’s degree will enjoy even greater benefits, as they will only need to complete two specialization courses to earn the designation.
As part of this collaboration, SIMAD University has been accredited as the sole tuition provider and examination center for the Chartered Economists professional examination in Somalia. This strategic partnership will benefit not only SIMAD University students but also extend opportunities to economists across Somalia, allowing them to obtain a globally recognized certification. By offering specialized training and exemptions, both institutions aim to foster a highly skilled workforce capable of contributing to Somalia’s economic growth and integration into international markets. This initiative reflects SIMAD University’s commitment to academic excellence and its pivotal role in shaping the future of economics education in the region.
